abolition of death penalty to parliament next month
The law bill for the abolition of death penalty was presented already at the end of last year (my old post from November 2004); now it is expected to be taken up in the National Assembly next month. (This is mentioned in a Hankyoreh piece about the theological argument which this issue has awoken among the Protestant churches. So the law bill has made its way through the Legislation Committee despite of the committee chair having been against the abolition. Originally the law bill was signed by a clear majority of assembly members. Now South Korea has a chance to join the civilized nations also in this regard.
